9th August of every year marks the birthday of our very special paradise, Singapore. It is not a hidden fact that the entire nation celebrates it with all pride and honour. This year the National Day was themed “Building our Singapore of tomorrow”. It marked and acknowledged efforts made by Singaporeans to establish the identity of Singapore, both on global and local sale. The year 2016 witnessed the grand celebration of Singapore’s 51st birthday throughout the length and breadth of the country.
Sentosa often known as Asia’s Favourite Playground is a place of profound tourist attractions. An adventure themed vacation resort, Sentosa brings the fun, thrill and fantasy in a single bowl. Major attractions at the lush green Island include the famous Universal Studios, Fort Siloso and the Merlion.
An integral part of Singapore, Sentosa geared up to celebrate the 51st birthday of the country with all exuberance and public participation. The Tourist destination came up with a creative idea of Sentosa Logo Wall. The wall was Setup at the Island premises so that visitors and tourist could stick their tiny messages and stickers on it.
Sentosa not only exhibited the wall for welcoming stickers on it but also set up a booth at the Merlion station which provided stickers and temporary tattoos to interested people for etching their thoughts and minds on the wall. People also donned the local themed temporary tattoos on their bodies.
Since the event commemorated Singapore, the stickers and temporary tattoos involved had a local touch instead of global ones. The majority of the printed stuff was Singlish: popular words for slangs in Singapore. The masses found the local slang stickers quite interesting and learnt one or two of them while sticking stickers of the Sentosa Logo Wall. This added a tangy fun to the whole celebration.
Inspiration to Brand Promotion
This event took out attention to the fact that brands can use custom stickers with a local touch to promote themselves. Tourists have the hunger to explore new things. Anything local to Singapore is new and worth exploring for someone who hails not from the place. This also directs to the fact the local things increase the tourist attraction to the place manifold times. The same can work for brands. Customized stickers nowadays are a must for brand promotion and a local catchy tagline printed on the stickers can take promotion level to another height. The local thing printed on the sticker can also be the picture, something for which the place is known for like an animal etc.
Overall, the aim of using these sticky stuff for brands is to make the target audiences acquainted with them. If doing things in local genres gets the product closer to the public then is a must for brands and start-ups who are struggling to build a customer base.
In near future, we expect more and more brands opting to promote things globally with stickers of local tinge!
